Elegant Cut: 10 Ways to look gorgeous in a v-neck dress

Angela Goh https://www.mariefranceasia.com/hk/author/angela 02 Aug 2016 mis à jour le 3 May 2019 à 10:03

While low-cut dresses are best left to the bold and the daring, there is no doubt that a plunging neckline can turn heads and get people to look twice.

Shine on with sequins
  • 1/10
    Shine on with sequins
The silvery sequins on this mini above-the-knee dress make for the most artfully designed aztec patterns we've ever laid eyes on. Much like pixels on a computer screen, this dress totally screams Conway's Game of Life. We love how the sharp v-neck cut accents the symmetrical theme going on with the ensemble. A simple choker makes for a chic final touch, just the way we like it.

    Ruffles in white
Canadian actress Meghan Ory flaunts those voluptuous curves in this white sleeveless dress. Those ruffles make for a sweet addition to the piece, and we love how she's decided to pair some white heels to match. Other than that, we've noticed that she's light on the accessories. Minimalism - we like that.
  • 3/10
    Sleeves + thigh-high slit
Maria Hatzistefanis looks clean and classy in this unique long-sleeved waist-cinching dress. There's something alluring about a floor length piece with a thigh-high slit in the side - and the whole look is made 10 times better with those lovely sandals.
  • 4/10
    Stripes for days
Singer Lexy Panterra rocks this gorgeous navy blue striped number at this year's Beautycon Festival at the Los Angeles Convention Center. A sneaky bit of skin is shown from the cleavage up, while the maxi length of the dress balances out the amount of flesh teased.
  • 5/10
    Bold reds
If it weren't obvious, we're seriously in love with ruffled dresses and, yes, we have a weakness for vibrant colours as well. This low-cut dress looks absolutely perfect for a summer's day. Of course, don't forget the sunscreen if you're planning on showing plenty of skin.
  • 6/10
    Green and girly
Karlie Kloss oozes sweet femininity in this interesting striped dress. The colour scheme here gives the outfit a real "daytime" look, making Karlie look like a complete breath of fresh air. The modest length of the dress adds to the sweet and innocent appearance.
  • 7/10
    Dark and dangerous
German model Julia Wolf gives off some real rocker chick vibes here, with that badass leather jacket, solid Dr. Martens boots and black v-neck mini dress. Those dark stockings make her look all the more edgy.
  • 8/10
    Soft shimmer
Tallulah director Sian Heder looks stunning in this glossy v-neck dress. Those stiff pleats in front make a unique addition to an arguably simple design. And, of course, Sian completes the look with a pair of black heeled sandals and red painted toes.
  • 9/10
    Short and sassy
Alice Marie Muller shows off those slim pins in a pair of pointed heels and a very short sleeveless v-neck dress. Simple and just a little bit suggestively risqué, we're giving this ensemble a thumbs up. We do like the contrast between the bright white of the dress and the vibrance of those electric blue shoes.
  • 10/10
    Colour crazy
Camila Alves struts her stuff down the streets of Manhattan in a wrap-around kimono-inspired dress. The billowing sleeves and thin obi sash give the outfit a very boho yet fashion-forward look. Purple, mint green and gold may not seem like three colours that marry well, but here, they look positively gorgeous.

Where the lovely v-neck dress is concerned, the good thing is, you are able to pick and choose the length of the neckline. Do you want to show off just a hint of skin, enough to tease? Or would you like a bit of cleavage on display? Depending on how far you want that “v” to plunge, you’ll want to accessorise accordingly. Dipping lariat necklaces suit the ultra low-cut, while thick chokers sitting above the collarbone look great with shorter v-necklines.

Because you’re showing off a bit more skin, we love how the v-neck dress can elongate your neck. Also, if you have a square jaw, the v-neckline will give an optical illusion of a sharper face. No matter whether you like the mini dress look or the floor-sweeping maxi, a v-neck dress is chic enough to be able to take you from day to night.
