My hair is oily and sometimes even has dandruff
Stress, pollution and poor diet disrupt the sebaceous glands. These then produce too much sebum, which weigh hair and 'suffocate' the roots. In parallel, microorganisms that accelerate the scaling of the scalp proliferate. Oily dandruff can then appear.
Best foods for oily hair
"Limit the fatty and sugary foods," advises dietician Theresa Ellul-Ferrari*. Instead, increase the intake of vitamin B6 that regulates sebum production. This vitamin also has an antiseptic action and contributes to the synthesis of keratin, the protein that makes up 95% of the hair fibre. "There are good amounts of vitamin B6 in brewer's yeast, wheat germ, tuna, calf's liver, bananas and lentils. Industrial dishes, however, should be avoided because pasteurisation and refining of foods destroy the nutrients. Also rely on zinc, mineral seboregulator for excellence in your hair. Load up on oysters, egg yolk, red meat and poultry are filled in.
The right treatments for oily hair
In order not to stimulate the sebaceous glands which are already very active, wash your hair with warm water and do not rub your head too aggresively, but pat gently instead. Opt for a shampoo that's pH neutral so as not to attack the bacterial flora of the scalp. Your scalp can better defend itself against germs, which are at the origin of oily dandruff. A weekly anti-seborrheic mask with green clay can also help.
"My hair is too dry!"
Coarse and straw-like, they tangle up on your head which makes it difficult to tame.
Best foods for dry hair
Vitamin A fights against dryness. Consumed preferably in the form of beta carotene, "It is found in the red-orange fruits and vegetables and vegetables with dark green leaves like carrots, sorrel, parsley, spinach, watercress and apricot," said Theresa Ellul-Ferrari. A dry texture can also result from a deficiency in essential fatty acids. Several times a week, put food rich in omega-3 and omega-6 on your plate, such as mackerel, salmon, trout or sardines, and favors canola or safflower oils.
The right moves for dry hair
Limit any colourings and prevent from spraying perfume in your hair because alcohol dries it out even further. Shampoo no more than once a week to avoid removing too much sebum and aggravate hair dryness. And above all, rinse well and allowed hair to air dry (the hair dryer is the number 1 enemy of dry hair). Every three to four days, apply borage oil or safflower on your hair and leave on overnight so that it penetrates the scalp. This is one remedy that works against dry dandruff.
I have split ends and brittle hair
Fine and damaged hair, which breaks at the slightest traction, is hair that's prematurely aged keratin which has lost its elasticity. The outer part of the hair is a theoretically impermeable layer of scales. To check that it is intact, place a strand in a bowl of water. If it floats, everything is ok. If it sinks, the scales are damaged and no longer protect keratin.
Best diet for brittle hair
To strengthen the hair shaft, eat foods full of unsaturated fatty acids (see dry hair for recommendations). Don't forget the proteins, especially those rich in sulfur amino acids (cysteine and methionine), essential to the strength of keratin and thus the hair fibre. Meat, fish, eggs, whole wheat, sesame seeds, spirulina and Parmesan are valuable allies. "I recommend to my patients at least 200g of meat or fish a day," says Dr. Hertoghe, president of the World Association of Anti-Aging Medicine*. As amino acids of vegetable origin are absorbed 5-8 times less than those of animal origin, vegetarians need to ingest much more for the same result. "The B vitamins are also essential because they allow amino acids to integrate into keratin. Of brewer's yeast and a two rations lenses per week are sufficient." *Co-author of hormone Plan (ed. Thierry Souccar).
"I lose a lot of hair!"
"The hair is constantly renewed, so it is quite normal to lose 50-100 strands per day," reassures Dr. Thierry Hertoghe. Larger chunks can occur due to psychological stress or major physical changes (pregnancy, diet, menopause...).
The right thing for brittle hair
Forget the curling iron, blow drying, hot hyper dryers, smoothing, the locks and the products that contain silicones, which are traumatic for weakened hair. For colouring, simply make connections. Untangle with natural instruments such as boar bristle brush, horn combs. Tight braids, buns and elasticated ponytails should be avoided.
The right thing to fight against hair loss
Smoking reduces the supply of hair follicles with oxygen and nutrients. Here's another good reason to stop! If the fall is consecutive to a change in contraceptive, talk to your gynecologist: pills, IUD and implants are sometimes involved. In times of stress, relaxation and playing sports can help, since they promote good irrigation of the scalp.
Foods to fight against hair loss
Iron is one of the most powerful trace elements to reverse hair loss. Chicken liver, black pudding, shellfish, red meat and cacao are recommended, especially in cases of facial pallor, fatigue and night memory that falters. These foods may also mitigate any deficiency in zinc and amino acids, essential to stimulate regrowth. Silicone also boosts capillary density because it is a component of keratin. Present mainly in the envelope of cereals, it is rare when you eat too many refined foods. Go for bread and wholemeal flours and dates, bananas and certain mineral water (Chateldon, Salvetat, Badoit). Dark chocolate, cumin, wheat germ and hard cheeses are also welcome: they are rich in magnesium, a mineral antistress able to calm the adrenals whose hyperactivity causes hair loss reaction.
