Natural Remedies: Laryngitis and hoarseness
To overcome your sore throat, the solution is right in your kitchen!
Internally:
In case of inflammation of the vocal cords, opt for spices rich in cineole, a highly antiseptic molecule. According to James A. Duke, it can be found at the highest concentration in cardamom. Crush 3 – 4 grains before brewing it with water – or if in powder form, dust 1/2 a teaspoon over some yoghurt, or even to tea and coffee, as they do in the Middle East. Ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, rosemary, and tarragon also contain cineole, so add them to your dishes whenever you can.
You can also nibble on ginger or use it to perk up your hot drinks.
Externally:
Gargle with a concentrated infusion of thyme and sweet honey in lemon juice, advises Dr. Puget who has been collecting popular recipes for many years, and also recommends the “hot potato poultice” on the throat. Wrap a coarsely crushed boiled potato in a fine cloth before placing it on the throat. The starch will absorb toxins. This also works for treating angina.
