Head to kapok and let your creative flag fly high with workshops and a pop up store done in collaboration with local brands, Matter and Stale & Co.

Matter Pop Up

Out of the entire year, inarguably, August is one massive month for Singapore – primarily because it marks the nation’s 50th year of independence. Hence, naturally, it’s also an apt time to celebrate everything homegrown, from food to design, art and of course fashion. So for starters, the ineffably cool multi-label store, kapok, will be championing two local labels this month with workshops and a pop up store.

Kicking off with socially-conscious brand, Matter, shoppers will be treated to a three week-long pop up store featuring their full range of pants to as well as their newly launched block print scarves and tile totes. The totes are commemorative pieces that bring to light heritage tiles from some of Singapore’s oldest neighbourhoods.

Along with the pop up there will also be a workshop with FabCafe Singapore on blockprinting where participants will essentially be treated to a little history lesson on the art and its modern translation to laser stamp printing. With architectural icons from Singapore’s heritage sourced by Matter and laser cut stamps from FabCafe, you’ll get to create your own block print story and have it realised on a personalised canvas tote.

However, if block printing is not right up your creative alley then perhaps engraving is. Singaporean label, Stale & Co will be at kapok to allows participants to experience and try their hand at handcrafting and engraving a message on a brass ring or cuff. Featuring clean cubic lines and open-ended quote marks, the idea is to fill in the blank with what is meaningful to you.

So if you’re looking for a way to learn a new craft and discover the talent behind local labels, kapok would definitely be the place to be at this month!

kapok is located the National Design Centre, 111 Middle Road
