Chic comfort is the name of the game with MATTER’s latest collection which comes with a new artisan technique and 9 signature styles for men and women.

Just last year we caught up with world traveller and adventure seeker Renyung Ho, the brainchild behind local eco-conscious label MATTER which champions alternative production models for rural textile artisans. One year on, and the socially motivated business focusing on eclectic travel wear has evolved into a household name among discerning jet setters.

This year, the brand has launched a new artisan technique of IKAT into this edition of Pants to See the World In. Practised from Guatemala to Okinawa, ikat is a heritage of incredible diversity where patterns are conceived on graph paper in a grid form and then translated onto the warp and weft of the yarn by tying and dying. They’ve also expanded their offerings to both men and women with 9 signature styles, and are working with 3 artisan techniques of blockprinting, ikat and jamdani.

The traditional techniques are in step with the brand’s message to find out the where and why something is made and going back to the basics that connect everyone. MATTER takes their production quality seriously, hence the personal visits to each of their supply partners who have to meet a set of criteria that focuses on product integrity, social and environmental impact, business imperatives and management robustness.

The print designs you see on MATTER pants aren’t just fancy drawings. The designers take the time to learn the cultural histories and symbolic stories behind the prints so what you’re getting is authentic cultural designs from all over the globe. Rest assured you won’t find something similar in your local department store!

Take a break from your usual jeans and stand out from the crowd with your MATTER pants, which have multiple style and prototypes to fit many different body shapes. Inspired by traditional Asian styles of pants but cut for versatile fitting, each pair has flexible closures in the form of wraps, drawstrings or buttons to wear them high or low. Regardless of your style or size, you’re bound to find something to your liking.

Pants to see the world in indeed!

The full edition launches this Friday, April 10. All pants may be purchased through the online boutique matterprints.com, with free international shipping.
