Stealing hearts with one backless dress at a time, here’s why Stolen has earned a permanent spot in our closets.

The summer season may be met with legions of midriff baring individuals but the trend fails to flatter everyone. And for those of us who want to leave our midriff baring days to our teens, there’s another body area that is far more forgiving and might we add, sensual to bare.

Singapore-based brand, Stolen, is an aesthetically stunning reflection of architecture translated in fabric and are especially lauded for their signature back-centric designs. As the former creative group head of Ogilvy & Mather, designer, Elyn Wong always had a keen eye for art. Particularly inspired by the Brutalist movement, Elyn’s designs are minimalist to its core and structured in its silhouettes.

KAMI, Stolen’s Spring Summer 2014 collection, is an elegant portrayal of this strong yet feminine form, encapsulated in monochromes and muted hues of blue, pink and green. In a bid to emulate the look and feel of paper, the pushed up sleeves resemble a gently crumpled piece of paper while the pleating mimics the sharp folds in thin sheets of paper. Ideally, KAMI is a dichotomous quintessence of strength and fragility.

We are proud supporters of the backless camp and to pick one favourite in the collection would be a public disservice. Whether it’s a blazer with the back cut out – business in front and party at the back – or the strappy olive green number, the pieces are masterpieces in their own right. Without any ardent focus on trends, Elyn’s designs are beautifully timeless and classic, each yearning to be passed down from generation to generation.

So this summer, if there’s one area of your body you’re looking to expose, let it be your backs in Stolen’s sublime rendition of dresses that are also bound to get you a summer love – if you’re looking for one that is.
