Ximon Lee: Meet the first menswear winner of H&M Design Award
mis à jour le 6 October 2015 à 23:22
Parsons graduate Ximon Lee is the first American and menswear designer to bag H&M's Design Award trophy by winning hearts with his 'contemporary yet poetic' style.
At 24 years of age, Ximon Lee of Hong Kong has already been dubbed as 'an incredibly accomplished designer.' Marc by Marc Jacobs' Design Director, Luella Bartley also praised him as a fashion designer who has everything.
New York-based Ximon nabbed this year's H&M Design Award in which Luella was one of the jurors, along with prominent names like Lucinda Chambers, Fashion Director of British Vogue, singer Lily Allen and the Swedish brand's creative advisor, Ann-Sofie Johansson.
Ximon's winning collection walked the runway during Stockholm Fashion Week yesterday. The architectural pieces feature boxy silhouettes with artistic juxtaposition of patterns. His avant-garde, Soviet-inspired collection boasts an impeccable layering of fabrics and texture play. The Parsons graduate's unusual choice of materials such as plastic and cardboard that loosely hangs on the body, all the more proves the designer's creativity.
“I was stunned when they announced I was the winner. The H&M Design Award means so much to me at the beginning of my career – I cannot imagine how I’d start my own label without it. My collection was designed as menswear but I’m excited to see it also worn by women,” the budding designer said.
With the win, Ximon also scooped up €50,000 (approx SGD76,600) to start his own line and the opportunity to have selected pieces from his collection sold at some H&M stores and online this fall.
We can't wait to browse around Ximon's androgynous masterpieces for a fashion-forward look!
