The newest cushion on the market promises high coverage and a range of skincare benefits. But does it live up to the hype? Here’s our verdict.

When it comes to makeup, nothing is as essential as getting the base right.

Whether you’re a BB or CC cream fan or prefer the good old liquid foundation, having a perfect base is the ultimate goal and key for flawless look. Think about it, while lipstick and blusher can easily be retouched, adding on layers of foundation throughout the day can result in a cake-y effect that will eventually look more drab than fab.

Taking this into consideration and employing their renowned technology and signature herbal ingredients, Korean luxury cosmetic brand Sulwhasoo has come up with their latest skincare/base makeup product: The Evenfair Perfecting Cushion. And we were among the first to test it.

This multi-function cushion-type foundation promises not just long-lasting coverage but also benefits such as brightening, wrinkle correctionhydration and the obligatory sunscreen with SPF 50+ / PA+++. Just like Sulwhasoo’s other products, the cushion also boasts numerous natural ingredients like Apricot Kernel Oil, extracts of White Lily, Peony, and more which are harmoniously mixed to deliver the desired effect.

So how did it fair?

We have been fans of Suwahsoo’s products and holistic skincare philosophy for a while so we were thrilled to see that the brand has expanded their line of products with the Evenfair Perfecting Cushion.

Existing cushions in the market usually come with light coverage and you’re left with blemishes that needed an extra coat from a concealer. But with Sulwahsoo’s cushion, the coverage was on par with liquid foundation with an evenly smooth finish which did indeed last longer than expected. The secret to that is said to be in the inner dispersion technology where pigments are diffused with water instead of oil and hence preventing any lumpy effect.

The application was also a breeze. We love the way the specially-formulated cushion applies the product on the skin, resulting in an even finish with no streaks even after retouching. Definitely a plus for those who lack the magical touch with the brush or are constantly on the go.

What was also noticeable was the lightness of the product once applied. While normal foundation has a certain heavy feel which blocks light from reflecting on your skin and thus appearing dull – Sulwahsoo’s cushion managed to conceal the imperfection while our skin still appeared naturally-radiant and glowing.

But perhaps the only advice we would give those with oily skin is to top off the product with a setting powder for a more matte finish as the overall look can be a tad shiny for some. However, it did not bother us the slightest.

All in all, we could not ask for a better foundation to meet our daily needs. Effective, long-lasting and easy to apply (did we mention it smells great too?); this conveniently-packaged cushion has earned its permanent place in our vanity closet – as well as our purse.

Evenfair Perfecting Cushion, Sulwhasoo, (approx.USD58, comes in 4 shades No.13 Light Pink, No. 21 Medium Pink, No. 23 Medium Beige and No. 25 Deep Beige) will be available at the following stockists around Asia, starting February 7, 2014.
