The British label – and Cara Delevingne – host a night to celebrate art, fashion, culture and the Trench Coat in Shanghai.

With September just starting and the stores introducing clothing lines suitable for entering autumn, our attention is turning to transitional outerwear this week.

As far as light and trendy outwear is concerned, trench coats fit the description to a T and Burberry emerges as the de-facto authority on the matter. It is just by design that last week has seen the grand celebration of both Burberry and its iconic trench coats here in Asia and has granted us a full immersion in the world of fashion, experienced as a digital art form.

Following in the successful series of launch events, which have already graced Chicago, Sao Paulo, and New Delhi, Burberry has brought “The Art of the Trench” to China. The Fashion-made- into-Art Exhibition was held at Burberry’s flagship Shanghai store, inside Luxury Mall K11 and has brought the digital platform artoftrench.com to life.

Artoftrench.com is empowered by social networking capabilities and is wholly dedicated to the iconic Burberry trench coat, its wearability and the people who love wearing it. It encourages users – spread across over 200 countries – to upload self portraits of how they wear their own Burberry trench coat and to share it with other trench coat lovers.

The event was hosted by Cara Delevingne  (right), British model, actress and current face of Burberry’s beauty campaign and was a celebration of music, innovation and, above all, the iconic trench coat.

The store was filled with over 450 guests from the art, culture, fashion, business and sport worlds, including 50 of Shanghai’s creative figures of the likes of Bolin Chen, Denise Ho, Du Juan, Tian Yuan and Emma Pei Bei, just to name a few.

Celebrities engaged in an immersive physical and digital art experience and explored Burberry portraits, creatively captured by photographer Trunk Xu, via touch screens located across the store.

The exhibition will be opened until September 16, 2013 at both K11 and L’Avenue malls in Shanghai, China.

The Art of the Trench will be visiting Paris, Seoul, Kiev and Istanbul by the end of the year and can be followed online here.

Burberry Collections are available at the following stockists.
