As we gear up for the Christmas festivities, there’s nothing we love more than cozying up to a night filled with movies – beyond the presents of course.

Many of you may be jetting off somewhere new to spend the Christmas vacation but those of you who aren’t, do not be disheartened because sometimes the best place to spend the holiday is right at home.

So while at home, create an entire playlist of Christmas movies, get the popcorn popping and snuggle to your favourite rom-coms, tear-jerking tragedies or animated comedies. For and idea on what to put on, here’s what the team at Marie France Asia will be watching come 25th December.

The Muppets Christmas Carol (1992)

“Many adaptations have been made of the classic Charles Dickens novel, which is arguably the most iconic and joyful Christmas tale of all. But there is something about the Muppet’s version of the movie which makes it a must-watch for me every year – with no exception. It is funny, suitably childish and never fails to get me in the spirit. I just can’t resist Tiny Tim and Michael Caine who brings Scrooge to life in the best way possible. Love it!”

Just Friends (2005)

“I’m a huge fan of horror and psychological thrillers but for a night when I don’t really want my mind to be whirring with theories and a million and one possible outcomes, a good ‘ol holly jolly rom-com is the perfect solution – especially during Christmas time. My favourite being Ryan Reynold’s Just Friends. However, it’s not so much of a saccharine-sweet comedy as it’s all snarky and sarcastic but anything with Reynolds is always a good laugh.”

The Holiday (2006)

“When Christmas rolls around, I like to get all cozy with a comfy throw, a soft pillow, a cup of hot chocolate and a great movie. I’m somewhat of a Christmas movie fanatic – but my all-time favourite has to be ‘The Holiday’ starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jude Law. Comforting, romantic and endearing – this movie will never get old.”

Mean Girls (2004)

“Not the most Christmassy of films but Mean Girls’ bimbotic rendition of Jingle Bell rock is always a refreshing and hilarious take on an otherwise family-oriented and choral-type Christmas songs and movies. Nothing like watching a good ol’ classic film during the holidays, laughing as hard over Regina George’s demise year after year, and repeating famous lines from the Plastics over a cup of hot chocolate with my sister. It’s practically a Christmas ritual for us!”

Home Alone (1990)

“My favourite Christmas movie is Home Alone by John Hughes. I know, it’s a kid’s movie, but it’s also a hilarious Christmas comedy and I just love watching it over and over again with my family!”

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

“How the Grinch stole Christmas! It is now a tradition for my boyfriend and I to have some alone time on Christmas eve and watch it together by setting the air conditioning real low – just to wear ridiculous matching holiday themed sweaters – while enjoying a warm cup of chocolate with marshmallows!”

Love Actually (2003)

“Movie night is one of my favourite nights during the Christmas holidays. All I need is a warm plaid, hot chocolate, my friends and Hugh Grant, Colin First, Keira Knightley and Liam Neeson to fall in love under the snowflakes… Each year at this time, the movie always comes on TV and if it isn’t on, it’s doesn’t matter because all of my friends have the DVD.”
