Chinese New Year: How to spend your angbao money?

updated the 19 January 2016 à 11:08

We’re already thinking of ways to spend our angbao money even though Chinese New Year has barely started. Here are a few ways you could treat yourself.

Chinese New Year has barely started but there is nothing wrong with dreaming a little about all that angbao money. After all, this is the only time of the year where you get gifts of money for being young and single! A nice consolation for putting up with your relatives’ probing questions, we think.

We can’t wait to spend our angbaos too, so here’s our checklist for that extra cash.

Have a spa day

Put your angbao money to good use with a nice relaxing day at the spa. Go all out at Remede Spa at the St Regis Hotel. Expert podiatrist Bastien Gonzalez has designed a holistic treatment fit for a queen. Expect your nails to be buffed with a leather strap with two therapists working in tandem to relieve the tension in your hands and feet. Mmm, what a treat.

Take a short trip

In need of a break after the long weekend? Why not plan a short trip to a private island? Nikoi Island is just 50 miles away from Singapore and it is filled with white sandy beaches, coral reefs and lush rainforests. There are no other restaurants or hotels on this island making this a perfect getaway.

Buy that coveted makeup palette

Always wanted the highly pigmented shades from Urban Decay? Take a break from your drugstore makeup and splurge on this all inclusive Naked On The Run palette. It comes with six new neutral shades, contouring powder, highlight, lip gloss, eye pencil and mascara. All that for only SGD85? What a steal!

Watch a concert

With so many talents coming to Singapore this year, it is the best time to catch your favourites. Stars like Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Backstreet Boys and Meghan Trainor are coming, and we know it’s going to be all about that bass, no treble.

Trim and fit

Get back into shape after all that Chinese New Year feasting by signing up for an exercise class. Push yourself out of your comfort zone by taking something new such as aerial yoga or Bokwa.

Invest in some bling

Treat yourself to some beautiful trinkets. No, we aren’t talking about the seen-on-every-wrist Pandora bracelet. We are talking about precious stones and diamonds. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, after all.

Eat at a new restaurant

Take a break from your usual food court meals and make plans for a proper meal with some friends. There are many new restaurants springing up like The Unlisted Collection’s LongPlay, Joo Bar and the upcoming Breadstreet Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay. You’re definitely spoilt for choice.

Be charitable

If you’re feeling philanthropic, pick your charity of choice and donate your angbao money. After all there are people who may need it more than you do.
