By focusing on lines and proportions, the Singapore-based label, ONE.61 is set to become our next favourite place to get statement clutches from.

Not one sixty one but one point six one (ONE.61), the Singapore-based accessory  label takes its quirky name from the mathematical golden ratio of proportions. Hence, evidently inspired by numbers and dimensions, the covetable accessory line was dreamed up by designer, Jennifer  Alejandro – whose eye for innovative design drove an innate desire to meld heritage into wearable art.

And with all things mathematical, it was only apt that they rolled out an architecture-inspired collection of clutches, fresh from their showcase at Paris Design Week. The inaugural collection is essentially a stunning ode to Singapore’s architectural skyline – from the prism points of Esplanade to the angular planes of The Gateway. All of which are delicately crafted with a focus on lines, proportions and textures.

Meticulously put together by hand, each clutch takes up to 10 weeks to perfect and features materials that have been traditionally used in industrial construction or furniture design, such as brass, nickel and wood.

Ideally ONE.61 is an homage to modern design elements while it simultaneously strives to retain a certain flair for South Asia’s crafting traditions and heritage. From this collection, we couldn’t control our eyes as they darted towards the Cascade clutch, gripped in fluid undulations that are clearly inspired by the drip movement. Or for the selfie-obsessed, go for the Mirror clutch that was influenced by the grand mirrors used in Peranakan buildings – no doubt a practical accessory for checking your reflection before hitting the camera button.

So if you’re hunting down that one statement clutch that is bound to get heads turning and eyes twinkling in envy, then ONE.61 will soon become your favourite treasure chest.

ONE.61 is available at multi-label store, Front Row
