Bags are no longer just an accessory to carry around and put your belongings in; they’ve become a fashion statement, a social status and an investment. We’ve all coveted a bag, splurged on one and admittedly planned our OOTD around it. But for a bag to achieve such esteemed stardom, to be worn and not used, and to be worthy of an heirloom, it’s certainly not an overnight affair.

The release of Coco Chanel’s 2.55 in 1955 was a groundbreaking phenomenon in fashion, as it put luxury and practicality in the same context. Fast forward half a century later to today, the bag is just as covetable, if not more. It has stood the test of time and therefore worthy to be marked as a timeless icon.

Shortly after the 2.55 moment, it was Hermès Kelly‘s turn to step into the spotlight. Pictures after pictures showed actress turned Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly carrying the handbag, reportedly to hide her baby bump.
