Asian Couture goes digital with Gnossem

When it comes to fashion, nothing is considered as exclusive as couture. After all, the word ‘couture’ is now synonymous with ‘custom-made’ and everyone would agree that a bespoke or personalised piece is the height of luxury.
Hence, the idea of couture going digital might seem to contradict its concept of exclusivity. But is that really the case?
We beg to differ – especially as this month, uber-stylish online fashion boutique Gnossem has added the couture section to their ever-growing website, in form of two Singapore-based labels: Zenchi and ATTHENA.
Zenchi, whose claim to fame was the moment super model Naomi Campbell opened and closed his runway show at Digital Fashion Week last November is well-known in the fashion circles in Singapore and his clients include countless Asian celebrities as well as the crème de la crème of the local scene. His pieces are distinct as every dress is a one-off and can be transformed sometimes and worn in different ways. Embodying luxury with a twist, we love his signature fraying and unfinished edges, visible zips and quirky details which add a touch of fun to the most glamorous frocks.
On the other hand, newcomer Vikas Dayal – designer of ATTHENA – is a young designer whom was hand-picked by Gnossem founder and noted fashionista Lisa Crosswhite after he graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts in 2012.
Each piece of his limited edition collection which was debuted last week is a masterpiece taking up to 45 days to make with over 10 people working on it, for 15 hours a day! The intricately beaded dramatic gowns are nothing short of spectacular – fit for a celebrity at an awards show.
Beads or feathers – we love the detailed designs and outstanding quality of workmanship in Vikas’s designs and we still can’t get over the fact that he has just started a journey. An Elie Saab in the making perhaps?
But of course, couture implies made to measure and this is exactly where Gnossem is bridging the gap. If you live in Singapore, once you order a dress, the designer and his team will either come to your place or host you at their atelier to take your measurements and discuss any other personalization you want (colour, fit, slight difference in details, etc…) you so you get the premium VIP experience – and meet the designer while at it.
So if you’ve got a gala, wedding or a special occasion coming up and looking for a head-turning gown, forget those off-the-rack mass-produced pieces and go for a unique dress which you’re guaranteed to be the only one wearing it. Best part is – you don’t even have to leave your sofa!
