Stuck in a 9 to 5 style rut? We’ve got 25 looks to bolster your confidence and get you through those mornings minus the “What do I wear?” dilemma.

As if getting ready for work at 7 in the morning isn’t bad enough, you also have to deal with the hassle of having to choose an outfit that’s office-friendly. There was once a time not too long ago when most professionals donned a black suit every morning but these days, with the laxed dress codes and diverse professional fields, most people are more confused than ever about what to wear to work.

What you wear is pivotal because it reflects on you as an individual. Do you want to be seen as professional? Confident? Approachable? Driven? A carefully chosen outfit can make the difference between sloppy or professional.

You don’t need to have Victoria Beckham’s budget or any special knowledge of fashion to pull of a sartorial chic look that still abides by the office dress code. A few well-chosen pieces, suitable colour combinations and patterns will give you the confidence you need in your professional field.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

INVEST IN GOOD BASICS

You don’t have to splurge on designer names or experiment with outrageous styles to look fashion savvy. All you need are a few clothing basics, which every working woman should have in her closet. Topping the list of fashion basics are cigarette pants. Slightly tapered at the ankle, cigarette pants look best when they’re  tailored well for your size and made from a flattering fabric. And what goes well with cigarette pants? A well cut blazer of course! Choose one in navy or black as they’re versatile shades which will match almost any other colour you choose to pair it with.

From there, you simply have to stock up on beautiful shirts, flowing tops or T shirts in high quality materials to mix and match. High street retailers such as Zara, Mango and Massimo Dutti are a great way to shop for such classics.

TAKE INTO ACCOUNT YOUR BODY MORPHOLOGY

If you’re slender by nature, then lucky you because you can afford to wear almost anything and pull it off!

If you’re more round or pudgy, avoid trouser clips that give volume where it’s not needed. Opt for flowing blouses that will mask your lower body and subtly enhance your cleavage. Add height to your frame and make yourself look slimmer with high heels.

If you are petite, avoid baggy pants and jackets that are oversized.

MIX COLORS SMOOTH

When it comes to office attire, nothing beats the classic black, beige, navy and white. These go well with pastel colours like powder pink, pale yellow and baby blue. If you’re feeling daring and experimental, you could opt to mix it up with bold bright colours, but as always, moderation is key in a professional setting.

FIND THE RIGHT ACCESSORIES

Accessories can make or break an outfit so go ahead and invest in good shoes, jewellery and handbags. They’re also a great way to express your personality where you might not be able to in office outfits, so here’s where you can choose bright colours, fancy designs and bold prints.
