Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
The oldest bike trail in Singapore definitely deserves a mention here. This jungle paradise will certainly have you feeling like a contestant on Amazing Race as you navigate steep, rocky paths, sharp turns and sudden corners. The 6km trail beginning at the Dairy Farm car park will certainly have you come away feeling accomplished with your gruelling workout.

Pulau Ubin
A quick boat ride leads you to this biking gem, which is a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. From the tough double-back diamond to the easy white circle run, the 10km track at the Ketam Mountain Bike park will certainly put your biking skills to the test. If you’re a beginner or looking to try bike riding for a day, the surrounding shops in the area allow you to rent a bike by the hour.

East Coast Park
If you didn’t already know, East Coast Park is one of Singapore’s more well known urban getaways. With a 'Recreation for All' theme, the park caters to everyone’s sporting needs, from skaters to joggers and of course, cyclers. The well maintained track here is mostly flat land, making the 15km circumference of the entire area vigorous yet manageable. The park is now joined to 7 other parks on the Park Connector Network (PCN) so if you’re looking to challenge yourself or work up a sweat, this is the place to start.

Bedok Resevoir Park
While Bedok Reservoir Park, located in the north of Bedok New Town is popular amongst joggers and water sports enthusiasts, it is also a haven for cyclists looking for a more tranquil ride on the 4.3km track which is a mixture of pavement and pebbly path. This isn’t the place to indulge in bike races however as the path is shared with joggers and skaters.

Hort Park
Beginner cyclists and those who want a leisurely ride on their bikes will find Hort Park to be an ideal location. The wide meandering footpaths are accomodating of bikes and the lush greenery certainly makes it one of the more pleasing trails in the city.

Marina Bay Sands
MBS might not be an area that comes to mind when you think of cycling but the opening of the new route linking the East Coast Park to Marina Bay Sands via Marina Barrage and Gardens by the Bay, has made it possible to go from beach to city in 20 minutes or so. If nothing else, it's certainly an economical way to get around the city!

The cyclists of Tour de France may get closed roads and emergency medical care, but how’s a cycling enthusiast supposed to navigate Singapore? Especially so with busy roads and larger vehicles who are apparently oblivious to the struggle of the cyclist trying to get from A to B in one piece? Singapore may not be as bike-friendly a country as the Netherlands but that’s not to say you should hang up your helmet and stow away your bike.

So for those who want to indulge in their Tour de Force fantasies, there are places to channel your inner Alberto Contador without breaking speed limits or risking your physical safety right here in town.
