Handbag Charms: The 'It' accessory to adorn on your bag

With the Karlito selling out faster than you can say its name, we delve into whether we're quite as charmed with the idea of adorning our bags with key chains.
Bag charms have reached cult status since the outbreak of key rings and fobs adorning the arm candies of fashion's elite. We're not shy to blame designer Karl Lagerfeld on this one - the 'Karlito' fur bag charms have been selling like hotcakes under the Fendi brand and are rumoured to still be churned out for the hundreds on its waiting list. It's what probably started all the fuss and obsession with playful charms on every 'It' handbag - from the Mulberry Alexas to the mini Hermès slings (what we may now affectionately call the ex-Birkin).
While we've yet to see a point in spending our pay checks (some retail for up to the thousands due to their exotic furs and skins) on what's reminiscent of our noisy primary school backpack trinkets, there's no denying it's a stellar way of distinguishing your handbag from the rest. The covetable novelty charms add a kitschy, whimsical flair to serious totes and sombre-coloured caryalls.
Accidentally find your handbag being matchy-matchy with a fellow colleague at work? Latch on a colourful little fur pom-pom or chihuahua-print charm and voila, everyone knows whose bag is whose.
