Clinique has recently unveiled a product that had been six years in the making, but well-worth the wait especially for nail polish-loving fashionistas.

It finally provided a solution for those of us with nasty allergies and sensitive skin.

The Different Nail Enamal is on the top of our beauty buys list as it frees us from all of the nasty smelling chemicals that make our noses wince when we take a sniff of our favourite gloss. This affects not only our skin, but also – as we apparently touch our eyes 200 times a day – our retinas too.

The science behind it is simple enough to conceieve, but not as easy to execute.

Rodolphe Bories, Director of Training and Scientific Communication for Clinique, explains a bit more: “With the rise of the trend of nail polish, many dermatologists and allergists are landing more and more women who have irritation to the eyes, around the mouth or other body areas.

The reasons are the toxic components of varnishes such as toluene, acrylate, camphor and formaldehyde …

Clinique worked for six years on a collection of nail that pass all tests of allergy and agree on the most sensitive skins.

We selected the six most allergenic and toxic ingredients (including those mentioned above) and we removed them. We then had to rework the balance of the formula and as a result, we obtained non-allergenic nail polish!”

With its delicate formula (100% fragrance free, dermatologist and ophtamaologist-tested) and nine limited edition bright shades, we couldn’t think for anything more to ask in a nail varnish.

A Different Nail Enamel, Clinique, available at Clinique counters for approx. USD17.
