If you are into unique scent combinations, the scent of pink pepper might just fit the bill. Refreshing yet spicy, this note is worth exploring.

These days, take a sniff of most fragrances and you’ll notice a common note. Does it smell fresh yet has a hint of subtle spiciness? If that rings a bell, the note is most probably pink pepper. Pink pepper also known as pink peppercorn is a berry of the pink pepper plant. This scent is not a new addition to the world of fragrances for classics such as Stella McCartney’s Sheer and Nude and Marc Jacob’s Lolaare are jam packed with those notes.

This refreshing scent with a fiery scent is obtained without much force. In fact, it is not crushed or macerated unlike other types of notes. Given the variability of this noted founded by a French botanist, the scent of pink pepper can be enhanced or made milder by combining it with a variety of ingredients. To enhance the freshness of the note, ingredients such as coconut can be added while cinnamon helps to intensify the spiciness of pink pepper.

With this scent bearing a striking similarity to the ever popular and romantic scent of rose, it has been added to existing fragrances such as Estée Lauder Modern Muse La Rouge to add additional depth to the popular fragrance. This just goes to show that this hidden gem is versatile enough on its own or can be added to other scents to create something even better.

Be it floral, floral-fruity, musky-floral, this star ingredient is sure making its mark in the world of fragrances. Recently, it has also crossed over to be included as an ingredient in lotions – thumbs for that!

If you are pumped up to kick start a collection of products which use pink pepper, head over to the gallery up top for a round up of fragrances and lotions to try.
