Before we step out of the house, we always ensure our lips are decked out in a brilliant shade of colour. From reds, nudes to pinks, here are our lipsticks of choice.

Unanimously, across the board, the one makeup essential that we feel should be in your beauty pouches, at all times, is a lipstick. It could be any shade – nude, red, pink or orange – but a brilliant coat of colour on your lips could change your entire demeanour.

If you’ve yet to figure out what your favourite shade or brand of lipstick is, here’s a peek at what the team from Marie France Asia have on their pouts – MAC being a popular choice.

Banila Co Lip Crayon in OR 01, approx. SGD17

“It was a few years ago that I had a beauty eureka moment and discovered that when it comes to lipstick,  orange is my colour! Ever since then, I’ve been trying every brand, formula and shade of orange lipstick in an effort to find the perfect one for me. While a few gave me a good result, I stumbled over the perfect match in Seoul – the Kiss Collection lip crayon from Korean brand Banila Co. Creamy, semi matte and highly pigmented – unlike other crayons and formulas – this one doesn’t dry my lips, is long lasting and gives me an intense shade of bright orange which lights up my face. Love it!”

MAC Archie’s collection in Daddy’s Little Girl, approx. SGD30

“If you were to look through the lipstick section of drawer, almost 80% of the times what you pick up would be a shade of maroon or dark red. Growing up, that was the only shade my mom wore and I’m guessing that rubbed off on me. So in an effort to change things up a little, I picked up a MAC lipstick from the Archie’s collection. It was a beautiful shade of bright pink with hints of purple and I figured, ‘No way will I be wearing this’, but bought it anyway.  As soon as I swiped it on my lips, I knew this is one shade I will wear with confidence – as vivid as it was, it wasn’t too off putting at all. So here’s to more pinks!”

MAC Diva, approx. SGD30

“I absolutely adore the look of pale skin paired with dark lipstick, which is why Diva by MAC is the perfect one for me. Channeling old Hollywood glamour, this dark maroon, matte lipstick complements any skin tone, and is the perfect way to go from a day at the office to a snazzy cocktail party.  To achieve a classic date night or event look, I wear it with dewy, radiant skin and bronzed eyes finished with voluminous lashes. Remember to line your lips first so that the product does not bleed!”

MAC Brave Red, approx. SGD30

“Ever since Taylor Swift rekindled every woman’s love for the scarlet lip, red lipsticks have been in abundance in every cosmetics shop. From scarlet to burgundy, shiny to matte, my go-to shade of red lippie will always be MAC’s Brave red, which adds the perfect touch of colour to contrast against the many monochromatic staples of my wardrobe. It has a subtle shine to it, along with a creamy texture that feels soothingly moisturising and the greatest thing of all, it stays! Water, food or a long day stuck in the office, this shade is not one to rub off easily which saves the embarrassment of partially eaten lipstick on your lips. “

Clinique High Impact Lipstick in Sassy Spice, approx. SGD26

“I love this lip shade because it’s a shade of red that isn’t too loud – so it works in the day and also stands out at night. It’s also intensely moisturizing and unlike many lipsticks  I have used – where I have to apply lip butter on my lip prior – this just glides on and hydrates my lips.“

MAC Lady Danger, approx. SGD30

“These days, my favourite lipstick is MAC’s Lady Danger in a coral-red red. It brightens my face and looks good with almost everything. Plus, it spices up my wardrobe.”

YSL Rogue Volupte in Ultimate Beige,  approx. SGD48

“This lipstick is one of the best I’ve ever tried. The texture is smooth and light – feels exactly like silk on your lips and it is effortless to apply.
On top of that they have a wide range of colours. I prefer the shade Ultimate Beige as it looks very natural on my lips.”

Tom Ford Bruised Plum, approx. SGD70

“Basically, a “true red” will always be the best lipstick shade. But for this winter, I succumbed to a purple shade. The Bruised Plum from Tom Ford is a red-based purple. These kind of dark shades need to be complemented with flawless skin and light makeup on the eyes so that it remains as the focal point. Also, with just a white t-shirt, the shade will be just perfect to create a tinge of drama and retro vibe for the winter.”
