Master your hair type
Some styles, hair care routines and products are suitable for certain hair types and textures. If your hair is thin, frizzy, blonde, or you no longer have the hair you used to, then don’t assume you can successfully rock that celebrity style you crave, especially if their hair type and texture don't match yours. Be realistic and choose hair care practices and styles that can achieve the most practical look for you.

Choose the best shampooing products
This will depend on your hair type, condition, texture, volume, and the kind of colour or treatment you have done on your locks. If you are not sure what to purchase, ask your hairstylist. They have a lot of experience and knowledge about hair that could be of great help when you want to keep yours looking its best.

Wash properly (get that all of that product out!)
It is important to make sure there are no remnants of stale hair products on your mane. These not only cause that awful smell when they mix with sweat but can also dull your hair and cause your scalp to dry. When washing, apply shampoo on your scalp, not the ends of your hair. Massage gently, then rinse with cool hair. You can shampoo twice before applying conditioner. Target your hair ends with the conditioner. As mentioned, it’s crucial to keep your mane clean. Conversely, this doesn’t give you a reason to shampoo and condition it every single day, especially if you have to blow-dry every time you wash. Excess shampooing gets rid of natural oils that the body produces to condition and protect your hair naturally. Some hair types, such as fine and straight hair, may require frequent cleaning compared to others. Even so, keep your washes under 4 or 5 times a week. An active lifestyle can also demand that you wash your hair more often, but you could consider rinsing it without shampoos. This will get rid of the salts and sweat without stripping your hair the important natural oils.

Dry your hair thoroughly before using a hot tool
If you use a curling iron or flat iron on your hair while it contains moisture, the hot tool will damage it. Even before a full blow-dry, move the blow-dryer slowly around your head, as you tousle your hair gently with your fingers. Ensure that most of the water is gone before you allow the full heat of the equipment onto your hair.

Be patient – practice makes perfect!
Your hairstylist has the benefit of swiveling you on your chair so they can see your appearance from different angles then fix any mishaps - you don’t. Getting the perfect blow-dry, updo, or hair volume and sheen at home will require some practice and patience. This way, you will master the right distance and direction to hold your blow-dryer, the level of heat to set, the steps to follow, or the type and quantity of products to apply.

The best hair styling products are those designed to match your hair type and texture. If you love something your hairstylist always uses on you to achieve a gorgeous look, ask them to give details about it. Find out what it does, the main ingredients, and what makes it perfect for your hair type. Also, you can experiment with a few to identify what works best for you.

One of the reasons your hairstylist obtains outstanding results is because they use quality tools for the work. Invest in different types of brushes, such as a round brush and a tail brush. Find good quality dryers, such as ionic dryers and ceramic curling irons.

This one follows the same idea as applying makeup. You should begin with the lightest product and touch up with the heaviest. Of course, don’t forget to rub the product in properly before going to the next. When styling your hair, the golden rule is: begin with a ‘moisturiser’ for hydrating your hair, then follow on with a ‘foundation’ product, such as wax or mousse. These are applied close to the scalp. Wind up with hairspray or a sheen enhancer of your choice.
