It may be tricky to keep your skin sufficiently soothed but with these tips, you’ll definitely be keeping the rashes at bay.

Inarguably, sensitive skin is one of the trickiest to take care of. Not only will it flare up just from using products with harsh ingredients, it may also react based on weather conditions or emotional changes. In essence, your skin may either be naturally sensitive, reactional sensitive or occasionally sensitive. Naturally sensitive skin is characterised as thin, a little dry and flushes easily, whereas reactional sensitive skin is skin that reacts strongly to the weather or ingredients in products. Lastly, occasionally sensitive skin has to do with skin conditions such as rosacea.

Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean that there’s absolutely nothing you can do to sooth irritated skin. Here are 5 easy ways to ensure your skin remains free of redness, rashes or inflammation.

1. Invest in the right products

With the right products in your regime and the appropriate methods, your skin will be enjoying one too many good days. For one, we’d recommend with establishing a routine with Eau Thermale Avène products. This is from knowing that the French skincare brand is specifically dedicated to treating sensitive skin. Formulated with Avène Thermal Spring Water, which is recognised for its soothing and anti-irritant properties, there is no questioning the efficacy of the range.

We’ve rounded up some key items from Eau Thermale Avène that you should definitely have in your routine in the gallery above.

2. Stay away from fragrances or colourings

Various chemicals in product formulations may tend to cause your skin to react negatively. Hence, do keep a distance from artificially scented products or those with colourings, preservatives and parabens. Eau Thermale Avène’s new Skin Recovery Cream for instance prides itself for using a type of packaging that makes the formula completely sterile and safe from contamination. It is the only skincare product on the market with absolutely no preservatives, in order to only give the skin what it needs.

3. Avoid facial scrubs

Scrubs tend to be extremely drying and harsh for those with sensitive skin, hence it may be best to avoid all scrubs during periods when you face clinical signs. When you do not have any clinical signs, you may go for those with smaller beads or with calming, soothing properties.

4. Do not over-cleanse

You may feel like the urge to cleanse more than usual because of the need to keep your skin clean but this is only counter productive. Cleansing more than necessary would only strip your skin of its natural moisture and dry it out. Be sure to opt for sulfate-free, milk cleansers and those with no rinse formulas to ensure that your skin is soothed and sufficiently moisturised after washing. The Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser, enriched with Parcerine®, is particularly appropriate to correct the weaknesses of the most sensitive skin by calming irritation and restoring the damaged hydrolipidic film.

5. Always do a patch test

One of the worst mistakes to make when introducing a new product into your regime is not doing a patch test. As much as the product may be formulated for sensitive skin, everyone’s skin reacts differently. So while the item may work for a friend, it may not do wonders for you. Hence, it’s always wise to test a small amount of the product at the back of your neck and see if your skin reacts in any way to it within 24 hours. If it doesn’t, then say hello to your new found skincare love.
