Here are some alternatives to the harmful and crazy beauty hack that has been making waves on the Internet recently.

We only have one thing to say about the Kylie Jenner lip challenge: Don’t do it!

If you haven’t been online for the past week or so, let us fill you in on the latest craze, hashtagged #KylieJennerChallenge. The Internet has taken its love for Jenner’s plump lips to a whole new level (even Jenner doesn’t concur in the endeavour). Teenagers, mostly girls, uploaded videos of them inserting their lips into a narrow bottle opening or shot glass, and then sucking in the air to create a vacuum. Instead of getting Jenner’s pout, teenagers end up with overly swollen lips, bruises and even minor injuries.

Little did they know that getting fuller lips sans surgery doesn’t have to entail bruises or swelling.

One of the ways you can achieve plump lips, using some of the products in our gallery, is by contouring. Apply nude pencil strokes on the middle part of your lips and blend the outer edges. Next, line the perimeter with a liner in the natural colour of your lips. Finish off with some gleaming lip gloss of your choice. You can also pick up more makeup tricks here and here.

Another way is to resort to natural remedies. Exfoliating your lips with a homemade scrub can improve blood circulation and make your lips appear fuller. Pair that with a lip balm mixed with a drop of either peppermint, cinnamon or cayenne pepper essential oil for naturally fuller pouts.

Scroll through our gallery to see more alternatives to the harmful challenge. Be it makeup, natural remedies or lip plumping tools, it’s wise to listen to Jenner. The starlet tweeted a reminder to “be yourself and not be afraid to experiment with your look” (the right way, might we add).
