Whether you’ve decided to do your makeup yourself or you’ve hired an army of beauticians for your wedding day, here are 10 beauty tips makeup artist Lucille Brunette has for all brides-to-be.

1. GET YOUR BEAUTY TREATMENTS DONE A WEEK BEFORE

You want to look your bridal best on your wedding day, but that doesn’t mean you should schedule your beauty treatments a day or two before. Skin always reacts after any care and your skin might be particularly sensitive to the beauty treatment. The last thing you want is to turn up at your own wedding looking like a fried lobster.

2. DO NOT EXPERIMENT WITH NEW MAKEUP LOOKS

Your big day is not the time to experiment with the latest makeup trends. What might look good on the runways and in magazines might not suit you at all. Opt instead for a timeless look. You don’t want to look back at your wedding album and gawk in horror at the hideous pink eyeshadow you had on, simply because it was the look of the moment.

3. AVOID OVERLY RED LIPS

You’ll be kissing the groom and guests. You don’t want to leave lipstick marks on everyone do you? If you insist on a bold lip, try to choose a lipstick is long lasting and doesn’t leave a stain behind.

4. DO A MAKEUP TEST RUN

Don’t wait till the last minute to have your bridal makeup done. Have the makeup artist you hired do a test run of the look on your face so you can decide whether or not it suits you and inform her of any adjustments you’d like to make.

5. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR LOOK RADICALLY

If you’re a natural blonde, don’t go brunette for the big day. If you look better with minimal makeup, don’t overdo the face paint so you look unrecognisable. The key is staying true to yourself and what makes you comfortable.

6. GO FOR WATERPROOF MAKEUP

You never know when you might loose control and shed a few tears of joy, so it’s best to be prepared with waterproof mascara and eyeliner to avoid any streaks on your face.

7. SKIP THE SPRAY TAN

We know you want to look like a radiant bride on your big day, but the spray tan could make you look too orange and worse, it could ruin your beautiful wedding dress. If you like the bronzed look, try to get a proper tan done at least a week before the wedding.

8. AVOID IRIDESCENT MAKEUP TOO …

You don’t want to look like you’re on the way to the club…

9. DO NOT PUT TOO MUCH FOUNDATION ON THE FACE

A lot of times, women pile on the foundation on their faces, forgetting that their necklines also need to be taken care of to avoid a contrasting skin tone between the two. Be sure to choose the right shade and blend the colours properly between your neck and your face to avoid the two-toned look. If you choose a shade that’s too dark, it will contrast with the rest of your body, if you choose a tone that’s too bright, your complexion will look gray in the pictures.

10. GET A MANICURE THE DAY BEFORE

Avoid getting your nails done too early in the week as you’ll be busy getting your hands dirty and might just chip a nail along the way. Getting a manicure the day before will ensure that your nails are nice and fresh for the big day.
