WHEN TO DO IT?

Before shampooing, on dry hair.

HOW MUCH TIME TO DEVOTE?

If you have time to spare then do it for 5 minutes but if you’re pressed for time then 2 minutes will be enough.

WHAT ARE THE RIGHT MOVES?

From the fingertips (never with the nails), make circular movements along the skull, beginning with the top of the head, the temporal areas, behind the ears, and ending with the neck.

WHAT’S THE POINT REALLY?

To stimulate blood microcirculation, thus promoting oxygenation of the capillary vascular system. Clearly, the hair, the better oxygenated, breathe better and live better! The massage also has an immediate relaxing effect (because it eases tension and relaxes the nerve endings).

IS IT FOR EVERYONE?

Yes and no. We know it’s not nice. If you’re prone to having a dry scalp then yes you should do it at home. If you have an oily scalp, head to a professional for a massage. If you do it at home, you may excite the sebaceous glands and therefore have more oily hair. And that is not the purpose of the exercise!

Top tip: Before starting your self-massage, brush your hair well.

All of the above advice comes from Karine from the Patrick Ales Salon in France.
