From pigmentation to acne scars: what laser at Ensoul can do for your skin

Looking to give your skin a new look? If you don’t have the patience to apply serum and expensive moisturizer, there’s another option that’s quickly gaining popularity: lasers. From reducing and removing sun spots and acne scars to plumping up wrinkles and shrinking pores, lasers can do a lot for your skin. We tried Orchard Road’s newest skin clinic, Ensoul Medical Clinic.

The process:

First, Dr Thean determined my needs, which were sunspots, minor acne marks, large pores and loss of volume around the eyes.

Once the needs have been determined, I lay down on the treatment bed, a nurse removes my makeup and provides a hygiene cap and safety goggles. Dr Kenneth Thean then starts using different types of laser on the face. The treatment lasts for about 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the number of areas to attend. In case you were wondering, you can definitely go back to work or run your daily errands, just remember to bring your makeup pouch if you don’t feel comfortable roaming the streets without foundation on.

Is it painful?

It all depends on one’s pain tolerance, but most treatments feel slightly uncomfortable – not painful. Depending on the type of laser used, the sensations range from pins and needles to a flash light, burning feeling or receiving small static shocks. In any case, Dr Kenneth Thean was very attentive to my feelings and adjusted the laser power accordingly.

What are the different types of lasers?

Pigmentation:

Lasers are able to treat different types of hyperpigmentation issues such as melasma, sun spots, birthmarks or even spots after acne. The laser breaks up the pigmentation into smaller particles, which lightens the darker areas.

Acne scars: Fractional lasers can remove acne scars by stimulating collagen production to fill in acne scars.

 

Anti-ageing

 Instead of going under the knife or for fillers, lasers can provide a few different anti-ageing solutions.

4-D Skin Rejunevation Treatment uses a combination of different lasers for smaller pores and smoother skin together with intense toning, firming and tightening.

EnLift combines a high intensity focused ultrasound with a laser treatment, the ultrasound waves reaching different levels of skin tissues.

Revital Eye Treatment focuses on the eye area and decreases eye-bags volume, using different technologies to structure and tighten the skin as well as stimulate the production of new skin cells and collagen.

 

The aftercare:

Right after the treatment, the skin feels tighter and turns red, feeling and looking like sunburn. It only lasts for a few hours to a day though, depending on the intensity of the treatment. A couple days after the treatment, your skin will probably flake. Since skin is more sensitive after laser treatment, applying sunscreen on a daily basis is key – you should avoid the sun for about a month.

Results:

Immediately after the treatment, the pores look a lot tighter. A few days, after my second treatment, I started to notice that the sun marks around the eyes were still there but not as visible. As Dr Thean explained, patients often need at least 3-4 treatments to get the perfect results. For the sunspots, the skin specialist was very transparent on the fact that I had to stay away from the sun to avoid getting them back which makes laser a good treatment before a big event (think wedding, graduation ceremony, etc.) but not a cure.

On the other hand, the minor acne scars on the lower part of my face really reduced and unless I traumatise my skin, they won’t come back.

As Dr Thean explained, lasers are like a gymnastic for the skin, it works instantly but you also have to go back often to get lasting results.
