We test the brands latest invention: Shu Uemura’s Lightbulb kit with a sponge and foundation.

Whether illuminating the face, hiding imperfections or unifying skin texture … the quest for the perfect complexion is our daily struggle when we stand in front of our bathroom mirror. Between the new CC creams, the ‘blur’ trend or the flood of new generation of foundations, our heart is torn… And now Shu Uemura offers us a new Lightbulb Kit consisting of a foundation – available in 14 shades – and a funny-shaped sponge which looks like a big mushroom.

Intrigued by this latest offering of the Japanese beauty brand, we tested for you! Very easy to use, the result is simply stunning and impossibly natural. The brand has done several tests under different lights and we must say that each time, the face looks much more enhanced with the foundation. The proof is in the slide images above.

 Why we love it?

Designed by a pro for a ‘pro result’. Unlike us, the pro makeup artists apply the foundation with light tapping to better target the needs of the skin. Good news: this sponge, designed by Shu Uemura make-up artist Yuji Asano, promises a pro result in just a few minutes.

How to use it?

– Use the wide side to illuminate:
Apply the foundation by tapping the desired area using the widest part of the sponge. This gesture can spread the oil and improve the complexion. Its roundness prevents edge marks after application.

– Use the pointed edge to erase the shine:
Without adding foundation, pat your face with the smallest and sharpest point to regulate the brightness level on the surface.

Our trick: We saved the packaging of the sponge and after each use., we slip it back inside to prevent it from lagging behind in the bathroom. Hand wash it with cleaning soap once a week, and Voila!

The lightbulb ( Shu Uemura , approx. USD60 with sponge). Available in 14 shades.
