An irresistibly cheeky bun is every trend-setting celeb seems to be sporting right now. We tell you all about the Top Knot trend and how to copy it step by step.

Forget sleek up-dos, it’s all about the messy top knot these days!

Ideal for the morning rush, this wild style bun gives us a rebellious ballerina vibe, cute but with a slight edgy tone.

Perched high and delightfully unruly – the practical up-do has won over celebrities such as the beautiful Diane Kruger at fresh-faced Miranda Kerr.

Ideal with jeans and t-shirt or an evening dress, whatever your outfit or occasion, the top knot can fit everywhere. From sophisticated to casual, this deceptively disheveled bun has won us over that we even ditched our ponytails and other classic chignons.

With its slightly tangled appearance, the top knot comes in infinite styles: slightly curly, perfectly knotted or wildly messy.

Big fans of this hair trend, we at Marie France Asia show you how to create the “cool” and “chic” versions of the top knot, step by step.

1 – Creating the high ponytail

– The “So cool” version: Don’t hold it too tight to keep it casual

– The “Very chic” version: Tie it snugly for flawless results with a hair band in the same colour of your hair.

2 – Back combing the hair

– The “So cool” version: back comb the hair, strand by strand to create a perfect volume and a tousled finish.

– The “Very chic” version: back comb slightly at the base of the ponytail before separating the hair into two parts.

3 – Creating the bun

Take one of the two strands and wind it around the base of the ponytail – clockwise – before securing it with hairpins. Then, take the second part and wind it in the opposite direction. Fix the bun by generously applying hairspray.

4 – Cheat a little

Create the tousled look by releasing a few strands around the ears and neck to apply the final touches to the top knot look.
