From following odd diets and fads to unlikely slimming treatments, we’ve got Dr. Gabriel Wong of SL Clinic to debunk some of these often-heard truths about losing weight.

When it comes to weight loss, most of us tend to go through an endless slew of diets, detoxes, treatments and regimes in the quest to shed those few inches. While some may prove fruitful, other tips and suggestions, such as eating before a certain time or skipping breakfast, could be doing little to help you attain your dream figure.

First off, in understanding weight loss, it is crucial to know that essentially you’re going after reducing fat instead of muscle mass or water. Various slimming treatments around give you the illusion of weight loss by reducing water in the body. Little do you know that soon after the treatment, you’ll be putting on the pounds once again. Ultimately, weight loss is without a doubt a long and difficult journey, which can sometimes feel out of reach even, but armed with the right information, that journey could become a whole lot more smooth sailing.

So in our bid to squash these weight loss ‘truths’ and put you through a fruitful experience, we spoke to Dr. Gabriel Wong of SL Clinic, who has managed to shed some glorious light on common myths in the gallery above.

And if you’re wondering what does work to help you lose weight or stay in shape, Dr. Wong has the following tips:

1. Aim to be active every day, such as by walking more and doing more household chores.
2. Body contouring treatments such as Liposonix can give a big physical and motivational boost towards your ideal body shape.
3. Eat right and healthily. Eat properly portioned and balanced meals, and cut down on unhealthy fats.
4. Fit exercise into your schedule by exercising in between your activities, turning your commute into an exercise and exercising as a social activity.
