It’s time to start practicing hairstyles for next year because judging by the myriad of stunning looks that emerged on the runways of New York, we’re going to need those hours.

SPRING/ SUMMER 2016 TRENDS

There are some hair trends which never fail to make their way into the to-try list. The great classics include the bun, ponytail, braid, accessories, and the wet hair look. Here are just some of the hairstyle trends we’ve noted during the spring 2016 New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

  •  For those who prefer their hair down, various shows showcased wet, slicked back hair. The hairstyle was effortlessly achieved and evokes a masculine style with a little height added in front for depth.
  • Hair was literally in knots in many of the shows. The hairstylist behind these looks, James Pecis steered away from regular top knots and tied the hair in knots. We love how the overall hair look could be casual yet made elaborate as in Creatures of the Wind to Ryan Roche. For a more elaborate look, the knots were done using smaller sections of hair.
  • Ethnic hairstyles also made its mark on this year’s runways. Luxury designer, Victor Alfaro presented his collection with his models sporting crest braid hairstyles.
  • Hair accessories were all the rage this fashion week. Take for example the giant black leather bow used during the Cushnie Et Ochs show. The accessory featured hints of traditional West Indian culture.
  •  The return of parting was seen almost everywhere (Pamella Roland, Tadashi Shoji, Badgley Mischka, Prabal Gurung, Francesca Liberatore, Rodarte, Oscar de la Renta, Nicholas K, Jenny Packham, Alicie Olivia, Givenchy, Morgane Fay, Tommy Hilfiger, Carolina Herrera, Jill Stuart, Zang Toi, Tibi, Zac Posen…). A slight variation was seen in Victoria Beckham‘s show where the line, almost in the middle is slightly off by just a few millimeters. A subtle twist which was eye catching.
