Everyone’s favourite theatrical hat designer is set to launch an equally fascinating makeup collection with MAC come April.

While news of the collaboration did hit some time ago, now that the launch date is creeping up closer and closer, our excitement levels are only soaring higher and higher.

The London-based Irish milliner, Philip Treacy, whose wildly whimsical and avant garde creations have adorned the heads of Lady Gaga, Kate Middleton and Princess Beatrice, cosied up with MAC Comestics to launch an equally covetable makeup line. Speaking to WWD, the hat designer said, “Makeup…enhances the features. Which is what hats are about,” so it comes as perhaps no surprise that Philip Treacy has come on board MAC’s leaderboard of collaborators.

Revolving around three colour palettes – metallic, colorful and “slightly Gothic” – the 13-piece collection will consist of highlighter powders, lipsticks, paint pots, eyeliners and a mascara, inspired by Treacy’s hats. As evident in the campaign images, the three hats which formed the core source of inspiration were the silver, Art Deco headpiece, a pink, feathered fascinator and a black lace face mask.

Rest assured though, for while his hats are typically dramatic works of art, the makeup line carries a selection of wearable hues with just a subtle tinge of drama thrown into the mix. So pencil it into your calendars ladies, this is one collaborative collection you’ll want to own – even if the packaging is far from theatrical.

The Philip Treacy for MAC collection will launch in April 2015 at all MAC stores.
