Have an accent colour
While minimalism can create a sense of cleanliness and order, spicing things up isn’t so bad. Switch things up by adding in an accent colour— this can be in the form of a brightly-coloured wall, or simply some splashes of colour around. Go for primary shades if you’re stuck for choice, but choose brighter and more intense shades to stimulate your brain. Alternatively, if you’re prone to stressing out, stick to paler shades to soothe.

Don’t just organise— organise with style
When it comes down to it, you can only work effectively when you know where your things are. No matter your level of tidiness in your everyday life, keeping items in a familiar place would mean less time fumbling around. Whether you like to have cabinets, keep your things in wicket baskets, or have a modular system in place, it doesn't really matter. Find a style that works for you, and then style it up.

Let the light in
Use the sun to your fullest advantage with windows that let the sun in. So, no, don’t just hide your windows with a curtain and rely on artificial lighting. The presence of natural light would help you with work, stimulating creativity and productivity. Opt for heat-reducing window film or drapes if the weather around you can get unbearably hot, but try to get as much sunlight as possible.

Okay, so some of us might not be so lucky to have a spare room lying around to convert into your very own home office. Don’t be discouraged though! Use whatever space is available, and try to modify it to fit your purposes as much as possible. Whether it is a small corner in your living room or along the corridors, you don’t need a large space to be productive.

Switch our your table
Though there have been much debate about the effectiveness of standing table, sitting down for hours certainly isn’t good for your health. Staying sedentary have been linked to cause a higher risk for cardiovascular diseases, as well as cancer. Consider getting an adjustable table, so you get a healthy dose of both!

Use your wall space
A wall need not only be for decorations. Sure, photo frames and paintings are an amazing way to style your walls, but consider changing things up a bit. Floating shelves are a great way to store even more items (while making full use of high ceilings), or consider using a mesh wire wall organiser for a more flexible way of display stuff. Hang reminders to self, as well as pretty pictures. Best of all, get magnetic pencil holders to store your stationery as well!

Opt for a different chair
It may sound strange, but your chair can actually pull the whole room together. You might want to grab an office chair from the nearest furniture store, but how about going for an armchair instead? This will make you feel comfortable, as well as making your office feel a lot more luxe, especially if you’re going to be spending more time out of your office. Of course, this may not be the best option if you’re going to be sitting in there for long periods of time, so select the more ergonomic option if that’s the case.

Differentiate
For those sharing a home office with a partner, it might be hard to have an area all for yourself. So, here’s an idea: give it the same base, but add the additional flourish by yourself. This provides a sense of cohesion for your room, while making it truly yours. It comes down to the littlest of details: from the lamp, to the little embellishments that you prefer.

Get ready to doodle
If you’re not feeling an accent or gallery wall, use chalkboard paint to get a flexible space. You can doodle when you’re stressed, or use the space as a collection of things you have to do. And, when it’s all done and dusted, wipe it away for a clean slate. Though there’s no scientific proof about it, clearing away your to-do list gives an immensely satisfying feeling— and this is made even better when your to-do list is printed in large letters across your wall.

Not only do they provide you with a breath of fresh air (and quite literally so), but they also help to improve productivity.The spider plant is known for being a popular pick as it doesn’t require much care, and it is also great at removing pollutants in the air.
