Music lovers the world over are sure to have tuned in to the 2015 Video Music Awards, but even if you didn’t – contain yourselves, we’ve got all the highlights you need to know stat.

The awards show, held at the LA’s Microsoft Theatre was kicked off with performances by Nicki Minaj who belted out her most recent hits including The Night is Still Young, where she was joined on stage by Taylor Swift. It looks like whatever bad blood the stars had between them has since been solved as the two looked very much comfortable exchanging banter onstage.

Taylor and Nicki weren’t the only big names putting on flawless performances at the VMAs. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis got the crowd moving with Downtown and Justin Bieber made his VMAs comeback, opening the set with Where Are You Now? Dressed in all black, the singer was joined by eight female backup dancers when he was ready to launch into his latest single What Do You Mean? where he ended his performance by soaring into the air via a harness.

VMA Winners

Of course, bold-faced names and A-list performances aside, the VMAs are actually about recognizing and awarding the talent in the music industry and the awards show got down to business, with Britney Spears doing the honours and handing out the first award of the night (Best Male Video) to Mark Ronson for his ubiquitous hit Uptown Funk, which Britney called an “instant, classic VMA performance.”

Not surprisingly, Taylor Swift scored the Best Pop Video award for her Blank Space video, beating out other notable contenders like Mark Ronson (Uptown Funk), Beyonce (7/11), Maroon 5 (Sugar) and Ed Sheeran (Thinking Out Loud). When it was announced Blank Space also won the Best Female Video category, Taylor Swift took to the stage to thank her fans for watching the video a billion times.

Other celebs who walked away with the much coveted Moonman trophies include Nicki Minaj who won the Best Hip Hop Video award for Anaconda. Nicki may have made peace with Taylor, but the singer was clearly not cool with VMAs host Miley Cyrus. Ms Minaj thanked her fans and supporters in her acceptance speech before turning the spotlight on Miley and calling her out for her comments in a recent interview.

The controversial Miley, famous for her twerking stunts back at the 2013 edition of the VMAs was visibly stunned by the comments but regained her composure to continue with hosting duties. This time around, her act was a little more toned down – even if her racy outfit wasn’t!

We’re sure this isn’t the end of the Miley-Nicki drama, but in the meantime, catch up on the latest winners of the night in our gallery roundup above.
