Take That wins over crowd with brilliant return to Singapore

Performing at the HSBC Women’s Champions, Take That sure brought back some good ol’ memories with their voices.

Take That was perfect from the moment they got to stage at 7.30pm – their punctuality, as evident from my earlier experience in London for their 2013 Progress Live tour, was much admired.

With the concert being a part of the HSBC Women’s Champions, the location itself – at a golf course – was beyond unique, and dare I say, sets the tone for future concert opportunities.

Mark Owen started with Shine, followed by a series of their hits post reuniting in 2005. A few songs later, as promised by Gary Barlow during our phone interview earlier, the band sang ‘Pray’. What followed immediately were hysterical screams from the fans and much laughter from their choreographed dance moves. If any other bands performed something similar, it may have been classified as cheesy, but not for Take That.

I had commented to a friend earlier that “90% of the concert goers are above the age of 30!” That said, it was one civilised, mega karaoke concert, with friendly adults, whom many became teenagers again once their idols from yesteryears appeared on stage. I honestly could not remember a concert in Singapore, where almost all the fans were so enthusiastic.

The loudest and wildest cheers were given to all their 90s hits such as Relight My Fire, Could it be Magic, Back for Good and a piano medley of A Million Love Songs, Babe and How Deep is your Love. Howard ended a perfectly executed 90 minute-long concert with a crowd favourite – Never Forget. Yes, never forget your fans here in Singapore.

The concert definitely reunited many of my friends, who remember skipping school and risking their exams for their concert back in 1995 – fond memories indeed.

So Take That, we definitely want you Back for Good.
