This photo series will debunk the weak-girl stereotypes once and for all.

Through her stunning “Strong is the New Pretty” photo series, American photographer Kate Parker shows that girls too can be beautifully powerful unlike what stereotypical clichés might suggest.

In black-and-white, she captured girls playing football, girls trying to pull of a skating stunt, and even those who don’t mind a little bit of mud.

To Parker, the series of photographs show her two young girls and their friends, “just as they are – loud, athletic, fearless, messy, joyous, frustrated.” She added, “I wanted to celebrate these girls as they are, not how females are expected to be. I wanted to celebrate them, just as they are, and show them that is enough. Being pretty or perfect is not important. Being who they are is.”

Indeed, enough of the ‘damsel in distress’ adage and time to admit that “Strong is the New Pretty”.
