Question from Emilia,35, Reims, France: “I usually stick to wearing black and grey, how do I add some color to my outfits?”

Colorful looks can be great, but somehow we think that they tend to look better on others. It is mostly because we’re not sure how to wear them and always fearing of ending up like a clown! So we stick to the safe monochromes instead. But fear not, dare to be a little brave and follow in these well-dressed fashionistas’ footsteps – whom we spotted on the streets of New York and Milan – and who still manage to wear colour without risking an OTT effect:

Afraid of a daring combination? Play it safe and try white + bright colours. This summer, we’re loving the meadow green and beautiful coral colour combo. And for the evening, apply the same principle: but mix black with Klein blue.

But if you do not want to mix colours, there is another easy solution too: the little solid dress in a beautiful fresh colour. It’s a no-brainer on what to wear it with!

Tame the halftones. A pink top with orange can be very pretty, but you’re not there yet. Try to marry muted colors like dark wine with neutral colors like navy or beige.

Still not too sure? Put on a colorful accessory! It is perfect for raising a serious look. We absolutely love how the touch of a fluorescent shade boosts any outfit.

Shopping ideas: the lagoon blue dress from Zara (USD89.90), and flashy yellow sandals from ASOS (USD76.36).
