You can definitely wear shorts in the city, but with a few conditions. First forget about the ripped mini denim shorts and leave them for the beach or lazy afternoons at home.

Remember not to wear khaki shorts with numerous pockets; you are not going trekking (and yes, minus the sneakers too, they make you look too much like a hiker). We prefer shorts which are straight-cut and made from cotton or linen. For a chic city look, team them with a shirt or a blouse which has feminine details. Also, if you’re showing too much leg, keep the shoulders and cleavage covered to avoid a major faux pas.

As for shoes, high heels scream OTT, so stick with flats like a nice pair of strapped sandals or chic sneakers. Avoid rubber flip flops because those are just too laid-back looking.

But if you’re self-conscious about how your thighs might look in shorts, then try the Bermudas instead. Seen on the Spring Summer13 runways, Bermudas are making a comeback this season. If you are afraid that the cut-off point at the knees will affect your silhouette, choose wedge sandals which will define your calves and give you a better shape.
