Mustard pants, anyone?

Question from Pauline, 29, Toulouse, France: “I got a pair of mustard-colored jeans as a present, but I do not know what to wear it with. Any suggestions?”
The first thing you need to know is that mustard can be unflattering on blondes or complexions with yellow undertones. However, it is sublime on dark or tanned skin!
It is preferable that you do not wear the color too close to the face; wear it as bottoms – jeans, chinos, skirt – or even in small doses as accessories.
Given the fact that mustard is a color straight out of the 70’s, why not draw inspiration from that era and pair it with a slightly transparent silk blouse, or a printed t-shirt.
In terms of color, mustard will works with deep color tones: navy, burgundy or leaf green. Similar shades to the color must be avoided: beige, camel or brown.
In short, playing with different textures is a good idea; wearing your mustard jeans with a houndstooth sailor jacket can be fun.
For shoes, avoid black leather because it will be too much of a contrast; choose instead a natural or chestnut-colored pair.
