Singapore National Day: The best of Singapore

What better way to commemorate Singapore’s National Day than to hear some of Singapore’s unique individuals share their stories and experiences?

The Best of Singapore

With National Day peeking out from just round the corner, it is now an apt moment to reflect on one of Singapore’s treasured resource, her people.

A series of videos, titled The Best of Singapore, pays tribute to seemingly ordinary roles in the Singaporean society, that typically go unnoticed by many. By capturing a team of individuals from a wide spectrum of backgrounds, the Youtube videos manage to offer a true and complete reflection of Singapore’s culture.

The first video in the series features a couple in their 20s who decided to serve the nation as regular soldiers, a 71 year-old porter who has been welcoming hotel guests for the last 15 years and a mother and son as hawkers in a wet market.

Each individual provided an account of what they do, why they do it and little personal thoughts on Singapore – the land that they proudly call home. It’s most definitely an endearing and heart-warming piece that tugs dearly at your heart strings. Even more so, the video is a stark reminder of how much Singaporeans tend to overlook in their everyday lives.

So if there’s anything that you do today, we urge you to spare 4 minutes to stop and listen. It’ll be worth your time.

The first of its kind, The Best of You is a social movement that aims to encourage appreciation and self-affirmation in society by getting people to share their stories on the things and experiences that have brought out the best of them via the-best-of-you.comThe movement has been running for 3 months now, and will conclude with an exhibition at Marina Square from 22 to 26 Oct.
