To celebrate Singapore‘s 50th anniversary, Moulin Rouge, the iconic cabaret troupe brought down their most esteemed dancers under the tutelage of Artistic Director Janet Pharaoh to perform at a gala dinner held at Marina Bay Sands. This is the first time the 125 year-old Parisian cabaret is performing in the Lion City.

‘A Taste of Moulin Rouge‘ lived up to its promise of a dazzling show with the feathers, rhinestones, sequins and original choreography, music and costumes. Guests were treated to spectacular performances of the glamourous ‘Paris Dance’ and the now iconic French Cancan dance by 15 of the 80 Moulin Rouge dancers.

To be a Moulin Rouge dancer is no easy feat. One has to be classically trained in ballet, a minimum height of 5’8″ for the girls and 6’3″ for the boys, possess a nice figure, and a bright personality. Janet Pharaoh, holds auditions from Las Vegas to London, and from Sydney to Paris, looking to recruit girls with these specific criteria.

“As one of Paris’ most renowned cultural treasures, we hope the audience will be able to enjoy a nostalgic and thrilling night filled with Parisian charms,” said Jean-Jacques Clerico, President of the Moulin Rouge. Indeed, an incredible 360 projection of the famous Montmartre facade and its red windmill was displayed throughout the grand ballroom, transporting audiences to the heart of the action itself.

The dinner was jointly organised by the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (FCCS), Conseillers du Commerce Exteìrieur (CCE), ENCORE! (The European Season Festival) and Alliance Française in celebration of Singapore’s 50th anniversary.

Magnifique!
