Finalists from the sustainable design competition will be showcasing their eco-friendly designs at Raffles College in Singapore. Head down to see the pieces up close.

Rather than run-of-the-mill designs, The EcoChic Design Award for five editions now have sought to challenge designers to think against the grain, work with up-cycled fabrics and create environmentally-friendly outfits that are nonetheless sartorially savvy.

As the fifth edition was recently concluded early this year, Redress, the sustainable fashion NGO in Hong Kong will be taking the finalists’ collection on a travelling exhibition in their home countries. From 10 April to 9 May, 10 striking eco-friendly garments will be on display at Raffles College of Higher Education and at the same time promote the idea of sustainable style.

The 10 designers, including Laurensia Salim (Singapore), who won the Special Prize, and other 9 from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, UK, France, Sweden and Denmark, each contributed one design for the exhibition. All of which were made using the sustainable design techniques of zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction in an effort to cut waste out of fashion.
Open to all, do drop by and hear about the inspirations behind the creations and learn how you can play a part in reducing waste in the fashion industry. After all, the designers can only do so much, consumers need to take a step forward as well by supporting the cause.
