Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2017
When: 26 May to 24 June; 3pm till late

Where: Geylang Serai, Joo Chiat Complex and along Haig Road

Why: Are you as excited as we are for this? The spectacular Ramadan Bazaar is back – this time, bigger and better! Follow the crawling trail of Singaporeans making their way over to the gargantuan night market, teeming with food stands and retail stalls. From golden fried oreos and eight-storey rainbow soft serve cones to unicorn-themed drinks and of course, the famous watermelon volcano, the eclectic variety of food will simply astound you. We’re sure you won’t need much convincing to go for this event, anyway.

1-Altitude Summertime Madness Beach Party
When: Friday and Saturday, 2 and 3 June; 6pm till late

Where: 1-Altitude

Why: Ever heard of an Indoor Beach? Well, now you have. Witness the transformation of 1-Altitude into a full-blown beach party island, filled with sandpits, beach toy floats and more. Get out your chic swimwear and flip flops and get dressed to the theme of “White Beach”. You’re in for a happening night of merry-making, drinking and playing against the backdrop of upbeat tunes by resident DJs, Leonard T and Jack T. With fringe activities and captivating performances to boot, it’s a party you don’t want to miss.

Ghost Nets of the Ocean exhibition
When: 1 June to 6 August

Where: Asian Civilisations Museum

Why: Dive into the underwater world teeming with gorgeous marine life, where man-made pollution and destructive fishing may see it to its downfall. The Ghost Nets of the Ocean exhibition sheds light on abysmal ocean pollution and its terrifying effects on not only sea creatures, but on ourselves as well. Drawing inspiration from the sapphire oceans and anecdotes of indigenous island life, artists from the Erub Arts Group have put their own artistic spin to lifeless fishing nets and created a magnificent layout of vibrant sculptures of marine creatures. Wander through the art installations as the severity of the ocean situation cuts you to the core.

Harajuku Fashion Walk
When: Saturday, 4 June; 4pm to 7pm

Where: Merlion Park

Why: OTT Japanese fashion fans, this is the one moment of the year that you get to step out of the house dressed to the nines in your out-of-this-world "Harajuku Girl" get-up. And, you bet you won’t be doing this alone. A whole army of adorably (and possibly bizarrely) dressed enthusiasts will be in this with you as you all take part in Singapore’s sixth Harajuku Fashion Walk. Displaying fabulous wigs and rainbow-coloured ensembles, the vibrant dress-up extravaganza promises to immerse you in the world of your favourite Japanese fashion district right in the heart of Singapore.

Mexican Film Festival
When: Thursday to Saturday, 1 to 4 June; 8pm to 10pm

Where: The Projector

Why: Amigos, get a taste of the cinematic world of Mexico at the captivating Mexican Film Festival, which brings to the table Mexico’s most charming cinematic voices. In collaboration with The Embassy of Mexico, The Projector has curated a stellar line-up of local films for Singaporeans to enjoy. From comedies to romance, each movie promises to reel you in with its captivating narrative and impeccable cinematography.

After Dawn: BBQ Block Party
When: Sunday, 4 June; 2pm to 11pm

Where: Camp Kilo Charcoal Club

Why: Deck yourself out in a smashing rig-out and join the party at Camp Kilo Charcoal Club, hosted by After Dark. Get ready for a time of daytime dancing, playing and chowing as you make your way through the DJ booth, carnival stalls and food stands. Of course, we didn’t forget about the Artist Market, teeming with a range of artisanal goodies such as vegan footwear and vintage jewellery. If you thought was it, there are even hand-sewing and crafting workshops available just for you! What more you could ask for, really?

Italian Street Food Fest

Where: Monti, 82 Collyer Quay

Why: Shout “Perfecto!” as you kiss your fingers while digging into mouthwatering Italian fare at MONTI’s Italian Street Food Fest, in celebration of Italian Republic Day. At this Italian food bonanza, you’ll be salivating at every station serving up traditional Italian dishes such as MONTI’s renowned Risotto Cacio E Pepe, topped with generous shavings of parmesan straight from the wheel. Doctors Without Borders Film Festival

Why: Going around the world and providing medical aid to people most in need, but can’t afford it, Doctors Without Borders is an international humanitarian organisation that has touched the lives of innumerable communities and villages. Watch them embark on various journeys to war-afflicted regions and epidemic-infected nations through three critically acclaimed documentaries that will be screened at this film festival. As these films unite the harsh realities of working in this field with the irreplaceable value of preserving humanity, you’re bound to be leaving the cinema with a renewed perspective and new awe for humanitarians.

Why: Left your wallet at home? Don’t bother turning back. Just head over to Singapore’s Really Really Free Market where everything is free of charge! Yes, you heard right – there’s no terms and conditions or surprise catches. You’re free to take whatever you need, but, don’t forget to contribute your own unwanted items to the mix, if you have any. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Not only does this event reduce consumption and waste, it also advocates the importance of sustainable living and the concept of sharing. Who knows, you could be walking away with a pre-loved iPhone or makeup palette without having to fork out a cent!
