Singapore’s 4-day fashion e-marathon closes with guest British designer Holly Fulton’s masterful 70’s-inspired collection.

After 4 days of showcasing up-and-coming Singaporean designers, Digital Fashion Week closed the season with the one guest British designer Holly Fulton.

But before Fulton’s final show which was a celebration of colour, texture and masterful workmanship – one more local label, Al & Alicia, got to take on the runway with their easy and playful style.

Here’s our round-up of both shows.

The “Run Away with Me” collection by Singaporean label Al & Alicia is all about eloping to the French countryside and merging with the locals in the historical province of the “Champagne”. We can imagine her now, the Al & Alicia girl, peacefully cycling through the vineyards, carrying hand-picked flowers in the white vine basket at the front of her light blue bicycle; she’s heading home to that old and cosy homestead, without pretence.

The outfits define a demure girl, playful, naïve and bucolic. For those who already fit the profile, and for those who aspire to a slice of innocence, this is a chance to enrich the wardrobe with the many separates available in this SS14 collection.

We have fresh light cotton fabric, serene colour schemes and small and unobtrusive floral patterns, all cut into loose-fitted dresses and separates.

Grab a slice of innocence in view of summer!

Closing the shows for the day and for DFW was British designer Holly Fulton. And this is indeed the best way to conclude the 4 days of e-Fashion and demonstrate that mastery is now available to the rest of us with a simple click.

Her vast collection offers pieces for every occasion and it is suitable for warm to hot weather. The inspiration behind SS14 came from the 70s: from the clearly identifiable orange colours and light-reflecting fabrics, to David Hicks patterns and Noosha Fox influences.

Influences aside, there are several striking elements in this collection. The first is the fan theme, which is seen on patterns, cut-outs, appliqués, and most refreshingly in the shape of the clutch. The Holly Fulton clutch goes through a metamorphosis of colours and materials and looks unique in any of its permutations.

Another creative touch is the usage of denim and the manner in which it is integrated within the clothing with other materials, seamlessly merging as puzzle.

If this isn’t enough to drive you to grab a few pieces in time for summer, let us reveal the most remarkable display of craftsmanship from the British designer: thin sliced perforated cork fabric. Eyes open and the audience is baffled at what is coming down the catwalk! Murmur starts about how this effect has been achieved and how can the clothing be maintained once worn. We’ll leave the secret to the designer and the mission to find out more, to you!
