We review the latest Manila-based menswear label S/S Supply Goods which combines comfort and style.

Does the cliché “suffer for fashion” ring a bell to you? That’s precisely the case especially in Southeast Asian cities like Manila where most of the time the weather is tropical  and hot. As a result, dressing up can be exhausting and it becomes harder for us to look stylish and comfortable at the same time. One way to achieve this is to avoid layering and wear basic clothes. Though added details in these garments wouldn’t hurt, right? This is where S/S Supply Goods comes in: the street-wear/menswear brand – which launched its debut collection last November 16 in Makati City – is all about functional garments with added subtle details.

Supply Goods boasts the fact it caters Sans Saison fashion ( French word for Season-less) at hence it is made for anyone, any season, anywhere, any day. This idea is achieved by making clothes and accessories that value both quality and details.

For its first collection, the brand is inspired by the heritage and history of old English country wear. Classic button-down shirts are given a more contemporary look. These can be seen in the details of the collars, shoulders, or pockets. From the collection, we’ve got our eyes on Guerin – a cotton flannel body in plaid with wool felt shoulder and collar detailing – and Reinhardt – a lightweight jacket with corduroy collar, detachable hood and printed lining. Caps that combine prints, textures and materials are also an interesting addition to the collection – and functional considering the time we spend outdoors under the harsh sun!

Our verdict? With country-wear as the cue for inspiration, and with various subtle prints and textures – taken from nature and its elements – as key features of the collection, we definitely feel that Supply Goods is filling a gap in the menswear market. And we can’t help but love the lookbook shoot which explored one of man’s greatest wonders, Angkor, as the venue to capture the essence of their collection.

S/S Supply Goods AW13 collection is available on the brand’s e-shop.
