Denim and leather may seem like a stuffy fabric to don but the Singapore and New York-based label, Dzojchen proves that all is possible.

The beauty of cultures meeting is the resulting confluence of creative ideas and sometimes drastically opposing views in a multitude of issues. By taking this juxtaposition of both ‘practical and philosophical influences, of East and West’, Singaporean label, Dzojchen essentially came into being.

Dzojchen, which is also the sanskrit word for ‘wholeness’ aptly represents a calming contrast of silhouettes across womenswear and menswear, with denim and leather staying in the forefront. It could be said that a lot of the brand’s sensibilities arises from designer, Chelsea Scott-Blackhall’s English-Chinese heritage that gives her an intriguing canvas to experiment with.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the brand has rightly achieved impressive strides in the US and European market. Launched in 2011, Dzojchen has already showcased at Paris, Seoul and Singapore Fashion Week and have dressed celebrities including the charming Johnny Depp, Carmen Kass and Lenny and Zoe Kravitz.

Currently housed in KEEPERS, The Singapore Design Collective, the label is set to make waves right at the heart of its home ground as well, starting with a showcase for their snap-worthy current and upcoming designs. For Spring Summer 2015, the menswear collection boasts of well-tailored suits in denim, leather jackets, shorts and t-shirts with relaxed silhouettes.

Ideally, one could see how the pieces could be worn in hot and humid Singapore, while still retaining a semblance of the definitive style that suits typically exude – no more excuses for the men to skip our on suits in Singapore.

Dzojchen menswear SS15 will be rolled out at KEEPERS.
