Gas masks, balloons and garbage bag theatrics aside – Here are 6 trends that dominated the menswear shows during SFW this season.

While womenswear reigned supreme during Seoul Fashion Week with big players like Lie Sangbong and Demi Park dishing out flawless collections after another, menswear most definitely cannot be left out of the equation.  After all, we’re talking about the country that is home to the prettiest boys who have impeccable taste in fashion – not to mention daring as well.

This time, the menswear collections were saturated with clean lines as the models strutted down runways looking dapper than ever. While some played it safe, other designers like Dominic’s Way refused to let their creativity be confined by the subzero temperature of the season and they preferred to lash out their eccentricity in full force. A refreshing breather made possible by eclecticism, whimsicality and the fearlessness of designers to push the boundaries of fashion.

From CY Choi‘s quirky arm candy to VanHart di Albazar‘s dapper boys, and Groundwave‘s leather heaven, these are some noticeable trends spotted across runways.

Pop of Colour

While the colour palette was mostly doom and gloom as black remained the pet colour of the season, an occasional pop of colour to perk up the mood could be seen sporadically by way of pastel pink trousers (CY Choi), psychedelic graphics (Caruso) or a striking metallic gold jacket (Leigh).

Truth be told, nobody’s wardrobe will ever be complete without that marvellous metallic jacket!

Sherlock Represent

Knee length coats are by far the most effortless way to smarten things up and it is evidently a trend that designers love to experiment with. No doubt knee-length coats were a familiar sight on the runway, it was given a whole new makeover every time it resurfaced, keeping us on the edge of our seats as we await new styles.

J.Koo went the quilted way while Groundwave stuck with its leather ethos and Leigh‘s play on varying shades of grey on textured fabric? Utterly genius.

Fur-tastic

What would winter be without the warmth of our fur friends? Faux, of course.

From the likes of Lie Sang Bong, VanHart di Albazar, Resurrection and Dominic’s Way, this season saw a plethora of ways in which fur could be werk-ed.

Lie Sang Bong allowed fur to make a tiny cameo by merely using it to line collars, while Dominic’s Way preferred to make a statement -as usual- by going full on fur mode in the most outstanding orange for his outerwear. Resurrection however, went back to basics and modelled fur by channelling caveman vibes with that knee length jet-black fur vest.

Layering perfection

Thankfully, our favourite part of dressing for the winter resonates within the designers as well. After all, what better way to experiment with both colour and texture at the same time?

Layering proved to be VanHart di Albazar‘s specialty for his daring take on mixing textures is truly unrivalled. Cropped knit jumper over a knee length coat, or a brown bomber jacket over a grey striped blazer that was topped off with a purple tie? Hands down the master of layering.

And once again Dominic’s Way’s brought layers to a whole new level – who doesn’t love the eccentricity of extremists?

Cropped Trousers

The casual vibe of cropped trousers cannot be denied – even in freezing winters. However, to align practicality and fashion, Lie Sang Bong, RE and Resurrection styled the cropped trousers over a pair of leggings – a trend that will definitely be a favourite on the streets.

Mixed media mayhem

In a bid to make up for the sombre tone of black, textures were mixed to add dimension to the collection. While leather and woolen fabric panelling proved to be a faultless pairing and a favourite amongst designers like Byungmun Seo, Groundwave and RE, leather sleeves on a tailored suit from Jehee Sheen worked like a charm too.
