If the new Mrs. Clooney aka Amal Alamuddin has it – why shouldn’t we want it too? Especially that it has more than meets the eye…

Love her or hate her, Amal Alamuddin has taken the showbiz and fashion worlds by storm, ever since her relationship with George Clooney came to be known to the public.

But what about her style? A little too ‘overdone’ you might say judging by the glittery full length gowns she’s been showing off at the wedding preparations in Venice. But we beg to differ – at least when it comes to one particular accessory she was spotted carrying around .

While everyone has been dissecting the new Mrs. Clooney’s wardrobe – little has been said about her arm candy, which we at Marie France Asia happen to know a thing or two about.

Particularly moi if I may say – just because I happen to own the same distinctive Sarah’s Bag DAMA clutch.

Yes, just when I thought all I had in common with Amal was her Lebanese roots (in case you are wondering, I never fancied George Clooney so  that doesn’t count), it turns out that our love for traditional-inspired accessories – particularly from Beirut-based Sarah’s Bag is another thing we seemingly share.

Modelled after the ‘tawleh‘ – a board game played by both young and old particularly in the Levant (Lebanon and Syria), the DAMA clutch carries with it much more than meets the eye, especially for those familiar with Mediterranean culture.

To produce this exquisite clutch, Sarah’s Bag collaborated with Maison Tarazi – specialists of fine oriental crafts for over 150 years – to make it in the traditional and detailed manner, using an intricate technique called marquetry, which began in the 16th century and involves applying different types of wood into wood veneer to form mosaics and decorative patterns.

Choosing a clutch like that is no coincidence for whomever is buying it (by special orders as it take 2 weeks to produce). But while I cannot guess Mrs. Clooney’s reasons for picking this particular arm candy, I know mine: carrying a piece of art which also happens to be a piece of home.

DAMA clutch (Sarah’s Bag, USD500) is available for orders at at www.mooda.com.
