The premium fashion design platform for young design talent prepares for a fashion-filled May showdown. Here’s the lowdown.

Young fashion designers seeking a platform to launch themselves can look no further.

One of Singapore’s Asian Fashion Exchange pillars – the Audi Star Creation (ASC), has announced its final 12 fashion design talents for this year. The finalists hail from 7 different countries and have come a long way, since the original competition featured 418 talents from 14 different countries, fighting neck and neck for the chance to be in the finale, showing their collection during Audi Fashion Festival on the 12th of May.

The final twelve feature a series of strong potentials, with the youngest being 19 and hailing from Singapore and the oldest, 32, from Korea.  These being:

1. Oei Shoo Jun Angeline, 27, Singapore

2. Keh Min Chloe, 19, Singapore

3. Leong Yaowen, 26, Singapore

4. Newman Han, 29, Republic of Korea

5. Hye Ra Rhee, 32, Republic of Korea

6. Hye Jin Kim, 27, Republic of Korea

7. Zhou Jun, 24, China

8. Rebecca Corine Lam, 25, Hong Kong

9. Tu Nguyen Hoang, 23, Vietnam

10. Kata Oka Hidenobu, 22, Japan

11. Peh Chin Yee, 24, Malaysia

12. Erica Devi Handika, 21, Indonesia

This is the fifth year the competition has been held and what makes this year’s competition truly noteworthy is the fact that each contestant introduced a truly unique cultural aspect of the country they were representing, in light of ‘The Asian Perspective’ theme. Vice-President of the Textile and Fashion Federation Singapore (TaFf) and five-time ASC judge, Mr David Wang, “We are seeing some very strong finalists in this year’s competition who were inspired by their country’s architecture, history, culture, societal trends and even religion. True to this year’s theme, they offer a perspective of where they call home through their brilliant designs. I noticed a trend of interesting pattern cuttings and fabric manipulation, and I am extremely excited to see the works of our 12 finalists come to life during the showdown this May.”

Audi prides itself in supporting and promoting budding next-generation talent. Mr Jeff Mannering adds, “Audi Star Creation has provided a stage for these young designers to bring their work to life. For the Audi Young Designer Award, we are looking for a collection that demonstrates innovation in design and production.”

In a fast-evolving and increasingly fashion conscious Asia, it is heartening to see this particular platform that promotes Asian design talent, grow as fast as it has.
