In swishy painterly strokes of colour, the Burberry Prosum collection was one of relaxed artistic aesthetics that did not fail to disappoint.

The legendary British giant, Burberry, has a long line of heritage doing what it does best, the trench coat. The trench has typically been a sturdy piece of apparel meant to withstand the occasionally harsh and moody British weather.

However, Christopher Bailey just gave the much loved trench a modern upheaval and transformed into a semi-diaphanous organdy wrap, while still retaining the general design of a trench of course.

It was refreshing to see how Burberry is pushing the dimensions and experimenting with metallics, gloss and reinterpretations of classics that, which Thomas Burberry would undoubtedly be proud of.

The Bloomsbury Girls inspiration readily culminated into one of bohemian vibes and sublime artistic aesthetics. In a series of colourful hand-painted pieces – from trenches to bags, shoes and dresses – the designs were very much an ode to the artistic field of individuals. Base colours were neutral (safe for the prints), waists were high, silhouettes were relaxed and lengths were long.

Now this collection, we are absolute fans, mostly for the fact that the trench can be worn in Singapore’s humid weather without looking direly out of place. In more ways than one, the entire Prorsum collection (despite the sheepskin capes, which we can only adore from a far), is very much wearable for a tropical climate and in that respect we’ve succumbed to the collection’s allure.

Ultimately Christopher Bailey never fails to delight his always-supportive audience, worldwide.
