Look fashion-forward and be a part of a good cause at the same time with the Japanese brand’s new women’s line.

Designers taking inspiration from the cultures of the subcontinent is nothing new. Over the years we’ve had everyone from Paul Smith to Marchesa, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent and even Karl Lagerfeld himself showcased collections that were heavily influenced by Desi culture. So, blame it on the trickle effect or blame it on consumer demand, but now Japanese casual wear retailer Uniqlo is getting in on the action with the launch of their new women’s collection.

Titled the Factory Worker Empowerment Project, the women’s capsule collection is inspired by the shalwar kameez, the traditional dress of Bangladesh. What better way to mix up your wardrobe this summer than to incorporate the new range of traditional dresses, tunics, pants and scarf pieces featuring delicate embroidery and vibrant hues into your daily wear. And lest you think you’re going to be sweating in these long-sleeved tops, rest assured that they are made from natural materials such as gauze and high quality cotton that absorbs sweat and feels oh-so-good on the skin. Wear it to work or on a casual date, these versatile pieces will certainly give you a truly unique look if you know how to mix and match.

Apart from looking stylish and unique, your fashionable purchases don’t have to come with a guilty price tag as part of the proceeds from the new collection will be donated to a program of the Business for Social Responsibility, an international non-profit organization that provides educational support for females in developing nations.

So there you go ladies, your green light to shop guilty-free!

The Factory Worker Empowerment Project will be available at all Uniqlo stores in Singapore, and will retail from SGD14 to SGD49.90. The cotton lawn scarves from the line will be available all stores except Changi Airport, One@KentRidge, One KM, and One Raffles Place

Don’t miss Uniqlo & Inès de la Fressange new Autumn-Winter collection on Be Asia.
